Join a long standing tradition since the club was founded when runners would bring news of the election tallies over from Manhattan to be announced by our club president on the balcony to the people of Park Slope. January: Prayerfulness: Awakening to the Fullness of Life, Richard J. Wicks

H.P. Lovecraft Reading
The Montauk Club is pleased to announce an evening celebrating H. P. Lovecraft, with readings from Lovecraft Unbound, edited by Ellen Datlow and published by Dark Horse. The reading will take place at 8 PM, January 15, 2010, in the Ballroom.
The event is free to club members. There will be a social hour for attendees and participating authors after the reading. Seating is limited: please RSVP by January 14, 2010 to rsvp@montaukclub.com
Anthology editor Ellen Datlow will introduce each of the four contributors from Lovecraft Unbound who will be reading from their stories, which are inspired by Lovecraft’s fiction. A pioneer of weird literature in the early 1900s, Lovecraft is best known for his development of the Cthulhu Mythos, a mixture of mythology and science-fiction tropes that explore other dimensions and the place of man in a hostile universe.

Person of the Year
This year the Friends of the Montauk Club, a charitable organization with a mission to maintain the historic exterior of our club house, will honor Everett Ortner. Everett, a long time board member, was President of the Montauk Club from 1991 – 1993 and is an Honorary Member of the Club. Don’t miss this yearly Montauk Club tradition! We’ll be serving some fantastic beer and a special menu of traditional German faire including pretzels, brats and more by Chef Mark Usewicz. A live um-pah band will rock the house as soon as Beer Club ends and bring us into the late hours of revelry. To partake in the Oktoberfest dining, the charge is $35 for a set menu, while regular dining will still be available till 10:00 P.M.
