On October first, join us at The Montauk Club for an evening of live jazz and cocktails in the first floor ballroom.
Performing for the evening will be the BEN WALTZER TRIO. “Ben Waltzer manages a brand of modern pianism that coexists with a buoyant, un-self-conscious swing. His fine trio features Matt Penman on bass and Gerald Cleaver on drums.” (NYT)

Knick Championship Members
Members of The Montauk Club enjoy reciprocal membership with The Knickerbocker Field Club. The “Knick” is a private tennis club in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn. Founded in 1889, the Knickerbocker is the oldest tennis club in Brooklyn. While the golf course is long gone, as is the huge old clubhouse and its bowling alleys (arson in the late-1980s) — there are still five clay courts wedged in between the outdoor Q-line subway tracks and a wall of apartment houses. Why wait at the public courts when you can skip to the front of the line at this secluded urban oasis? Call ahead to book your court time for a reciprocal member fee of $15.

Hermann J. Weimer 2007 Cabernet Franc
Beyond the big six reds, that is. We decided to explore some red varietals that we often run across on restaurant menus but know very little about. So our August 19 travels took us to the Finger Lakes right here in New York to try a Hermann J. Weimer 2007 Cabernet Franc (12.5% alcohol). Then we headed off to the Left Coast for a Rosenblum 2006 Zinfandel from Paso Robles, California (14.9% alcohol) and finally a David Bruce 2005 Central Coast Petite Sirah (13.8% alcohol). Once again, there weren’t many of us at the class, but we had quite a bit to say. Perhaps because bottle #1 in our blind taste test turned out to be the mighty zinfandel. Here’s what we thought going from lightest to fullest bodied.

Fredo Ceraso serves up "The Slope"
It wasn’t just the sounds of Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra that warmed the crowd at “First Thursday.” A special thanks goes out to the unsung hero of the night – guest Cocktailian Fredo Ceraso, who warmed the crowd with his drink menu tailored to the evening. The “Slope” proved to be the most popular and provided quite a kick. Fredo writes the Barfly’s Beat and What We’re Drinking columns for loungerati.com. His drink reviews and interviews have been published in Atomic Magazine and is on staff at The Cad, where an article on “7 Steps to Throw a Perfect Cocktail Party” caught our eye. When not serving up some of New York’s finest sprit concoctions, he can be found on the bocce courts of Carroll Park on the other side of the Gowanus Canal in Carroll Gardens.
The Drink Menu for the evening was:
Bathtub Gin Rickey
Hendrick’s Gin, Lime Juice, muddled Cucumber, club soda
Pimms Lemonade
Pimms No.1, Lemon juice, cucumber, ginger ale
St. Germain Cocktail
St. Germain Elderflower, Champagne, Club soda
The Slope
Rye, Punt a Mes Sweet vermouth, apricot brandy, bitters
